How long does a divorce take in Tunisia?
The duration varies according to the type of divorce and the degree of agreement between the spouses. A divorce by mutual consent is generally quicker than a contested divorce, which may require several hearings. An attempt at conciliation before the judge is a mandatory step.
How is child custody decided?
The judge rules according to the best interests of the child, taking into account their age, their living conditions and each parent's ability to care for them. Custody may be reviewed if the situation changes significantly.
Can a maintenance payment be revised?
Yes, its amount can be reassessed where there is a change in the debtor's resources or in the beneficiary's needs. A reasoned request must be submitted to the competent judge.
